Top 5 Nonfiction Books of 2024
It’s that time of year. I really enjoy hearing about everyone’s favorite books from the year. Do chime in with yours!
These are my top 5 nonfiction reads from 2024. None actually came out this year but this is the year I read them.
Best in Show
TRUTH IS THE ARROW, MERCY IS THE BOW by Steve Almond. Obviously a book for writers and I cannot recommend this one enough. It’s inspiring and instructional and funny and all the things you want in a craft book.
Runner Up
ATOMIC HABITS by James Clear. This book could not be more practical or easy to read. I have a feeling I’ll be returning to it again and again over the years.
Runner Up
STOLEN FOCUS by Johann Hari. This book is very insightful and went far beyond the cliched advice to “get off your phone.” The audio version, read by the author, was outstanding.
Finalist
WHEN THE BODY SAYS NO by Gabor Maté. This is a logical companion for THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE by Bessel van der Kolk. This book made me want to take good and thoughtful care of my entire self.
Finalist
LOST & FOUND by Kathryn Shulz. Beautiful writing about the loss of her father and the discovery of her lifelong love.
Stay tuned for next week’s Best of 2024 list. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my fiction list down to five. Maybe that one will be a top ten!
Until next week, friends.
